D8311 BENCH
Materials: Wood, oxidized stainless steel
Client: Designed for self
Role: Designer
Year Completed: Unbuilt work
The D8311 bench is one of two unbuilt furniture designs created in 2011 (the naming conventions allude to Eileen Gray’s E-1027 villa). Both designs are meant to be easily fabricated from laminated flat stock plywood, or, with a little modification, solid wood. Unlike its sister, D8311 also requires two bent or welded steel members for additional bracing. D8311 is intended for use as a museum bench, or in other settings of intermittent use, where some comfort is sacrificed to encourage movement, and maintain a sleek, minimalist profile.
